NDIS coordination comes in three levels. Support connection (level 1) is brief help getting started. Support coordination (level 2) is the ongoing service described on this page. Specialist support coordination (level 3) is for participants whose lives involve serious risk or multiple systems at once, such as mental health services, housing, the justice system or child safety, where a standard coordinator does not have the time or the expertise to hold everything together.
A specialist support coordinator on the Gold Coast carries fewer participants and works more intensively, and level 3 support coordination has to be funded specifically in your plan on the strength of evidence about your circumstances. NDIS support coordination providers on the Gold Coast range from national organisations to sole practitioners, and the right one for you depends on a few things worth checking.
Do they actually cover your suburb? Several coordinators service the central coast well and the northern estates or the hinterland poorly. Ask where their other participants live.
Are they independent, and does it matter to you? An independent support coordinator belongs to an organisation that provides no other supports, which removes any incentive to refer you inward. MediHealth Connect is not independent in that sense: we also deliver community nursing and other services on the Gold Coast. We manage the conflict by always giving you a choice of providers, never tying one of our services to another and documenting how referrals are decided. If you would rather have a coordinator whose organisation offers nothing else, we will say so and help you find one.
How do they handle complexity? A good disability support coordinator knows when a participant needs specialist support coordination and says so, rather than trying to stretch a level 2 service across a level 3 problem.
How quickly do they respond? Ask, and ask what happens when they are on leave.

Yes. Tamborine Mountain, Canungra and the surrounding areas are harder to service than the coast, and part of our job is knowing which providers will travel there and which will not. Where a support cannot be delivered locally we help you look at telehealth, travel arrangements or funding for provider travel.
Yes. We work with the discharge planners and social workers at Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital, and with Gold Coast Health community services, to make sure the supports in your NDIS plan are in place when you leave hospital and that health and disability supports are not duplicating or contradicting each other.
Give notice to your current coordinator under your service agreement, sign an agreement with us and we request a handover of your records and current arrangements. You can do this at any point in your plan and your funding does not change.
A support coordinator finds, sets up and manages your services and prepares you for reviews. A plan manager pays invoices and tracks budgets. They are separate supports with separate funding. We offer both on the Gold Coast through separate teams, and you can use one without the other.
No. MediHealth Connect also provides community nursing and other services on the Gold Coast, so we manage the conflict of interest rather than avoiding it: you always get a choice of providers, no service of ours is ever a condition of another, and how each referral was decided is recorded.
