NDIS plan management in the Redlands, including the Southern Moreton Bay Islands and North Stradbroke Island. MediHealth Connect is a registered plan manager: we pay your providers, keep your budgets on track and send statements you can understand at a glance, wherever on the bay you live.
An NDIS plan can be managed by the NDIA, by the participant, or by a registered plan manager. Choose plan management and your providers invoice the plan manager, who checks the invoice against your plan and the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, claims the funds from the NDIA and pays the provider. Which supports you use and who delivers them remains entirely your decision.
The funding for plan management is separate from everything else in your plan. The NDIA adds an Improved Life Choices budget when you request plan management, and that budget pays for it. Nothing is taken from your core, capacity building or capital supports. If someone has told you otherwise, they are mistaken.
The Redlands has its own mix of providers, from allied health clinics around Cleveland and Capalaba to sole-trader support workers on Russell and Macleay Islands whose invoices include ferry travel. Our plan managers understand those local details and handle the paperwork so you do not have to.
Invoices come to us from your providers. We confirm the support is in your plan, that the dates, hours and rate are correct, and then pay. Approve each invoice yourself if you prefer, or let us process the routine ones and check with you only when something is unusual.
Your monthly statement lays out spending and remaining funds for each budget against the time left in the plan. Trends that could leave you short, or leave funding unused, are flagged early so you and your coordinator can respond.
We submit claims through the NDIS portal and follow up rejections and delays until they are resolved. You do not need portal access or the patience it requires.
Every invoice is checked against the current price limits, including the rules for provider travel, which matter a great deal for island participants, and for after-hours rates and cancellations. Non-compliant charges are raised with the provider before we pay anything.
Each management type has trade-offs. The table below summarises them for a participant in Redland City.
| Plan-managed | Self-managed | NDIA-managed | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who pays providers | Your plan manager | You, with reimbursement from the NDIA | The NDIA directly (registered providers only) |
| Unregistered providers | Can be used | Can be used | Cannot be used |
| Administration | Handled for you | Handled by you, including records | Minimal, but provider choice is limited |
| Seeing your balances | Monthly statements and on request | Your own records | NDIS portal |
| Cost to your support funding | None; Improved Life Choices funds it | None | None |
The Redlands, and especially the bay islands, rely heavily on unregistered providers: local support workers who do not need to catch a ferry, home-based therapists, small domestic help businesses and community organisations. If your plan is NDIA-managed you cannot pay any of them. If it is plan-managed you can, as long as the support is reasonable and necessary and within your plan.
For island participants in particular, that difference can decide whether a support is available at all. Plan management lets you use the person who is actually on the island, keep a provider who has chosen not to register, and avoid paying for hours of travel from the mainland. We still apply the NDIS price limits to unregistered providers and still require a proper invoice.
We want to be straightforward: MediHealth Connect is not an independent plan manager. An independent plan manager offers plan management alone. We also provide community nursing in the Redlands, Redlands support coordination and other supports, which means we may sometimes be both the plan manager and the provider on an invoice.
We manage that openly. Plan management is a separate team within the organisation. Our own invoices are checked exactly as any other provider's and listed on your statement in the same way. You may use any plan manager you wish and change at any time, and we never make one service conditional on another. If you would prefer a plan manager with no other role in your supports, we will say so and help you find one.
We manage plans for participants across Redland City Council's area, mainland and islands alike. Because the service is delivered by phone, email and secure online tools, a ferry timetable never gets in the way. If you are leaving Redland Hospital at Cleveland or another Metro South Health service with new supports, we can have your providers set up for payment before you get home.
Cleveland and north: Cleveland, Ormiston, Wellington Point, Birkdale, Alexandra Hills
Central and south: Capalaba, Thornlands, Victoria Point, Redland Bay, Mount Cotton
Bay Islands: North Stradbroke Island (Dunwich), Coochiemudlo, Macleay, Russell
West: Sheldon, Thorneside
Switching plan managers can be done at any point in your plan, and your supports continue uninterrupted.

No. Plan management is paid for from Improved Life Choices, which the NDIA adds to your plan as a separate budget. Your core supports, capacity building and capital funding are not touched.
Tell your NDIA planner or local area coordinator that you want to be plan-managed at your planning meeting or review, or ask for a plan variation during your plan. Once Improved Life Choices is included, you can choose any registered plan manager.
Yes. Plan-managed participants can use unregistered as well as registered providers, which is especially useful on the bay islands where local supports are often unregistered. The support must be reasonable and necessary within your plan, and a few support types, such as those involving regulated restrictive practices, still need a registered provider.
We pay as soon as an invoice has passed our checks against your plan and the NDIS price limits and the claim has been processed. Your service agreement states our current processing times. If you have chosen to approve invoices before payment, we hold them until you have done so.
Yes. Give notice to your current plan manager as your agreement requires, sign up with the new one, and the two plan managers agree a handover date. Your plan, funding and providers do not change.
It is allowed if the provider manages the conflict of interest. MediHealth Connect provides both in the Redlands, keeps the two teams separate, checks its own invoices the same way as any other provider's and makes clear that you can use a different provider for either role.
