Positive Behaviour Support Gold Coast

Positive behaviour support on the Gold Coast, delivered the way it is meant to be: a stable team of trained support workers who know your behaviour support plan inside out, apply it consistently and feed accurate data back to your practitioner. What Positive Behaviour Support Means for NDIS Participants

Positive behaviour support treats behaviours of concern as information. Something in the person's environment, routine, health or relationships is not working, and the behaviour is the clearest way they have of saying so. PBS looks for that cause and changes the conditions around the person, teaches new skills and builds a life that has fewer reasons for the behaviour in the first place.

The NDIS separates PBS into assessment and planning on one side and day-to-day implementation on the other. Assessment and planning are done by a registered behaviour support practitioner. Implementation is done by everyone who supports the person, hour by hour. MediHealth Connect provides that implementation on the Gold Coast, through support workers and nurses who have been trained on the specific plan they are following.

How We Implement Behaviour Support Plans on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a long region, and one of the biggest risks to a behaviour support plan here is a patchwork of workers from different agencies doing different things. We reduce that risk by taking responsibility for a consistent, trained team.

Training on Your Plan

Each worker is trained on your plan before they start: the strategies that prevent escalation, what the early signs look like for you, the agreed responses, and the things the practitioner has ruled out. We attend implementation training when your practitioner provides it.

Consistent Staff

You get a small, stable team rather than whoever is free. Familiar faces reduce anxiety and unpredictability, and they notice the subtle changes that a new worker would miss.

Data Collection

We record incidents and near-misses in the format your practitioner has set, including what led up to the behaviour and how the team responded. That record goes back to your practitioner so the plan can be judged on evidence rather than impressions.

Working With Your Practitioner

Your practitioner is the clinical lead. We raise concerns with them, ask before changing anything and retrain the team whenever the plan is updated.

Who Writes Your Behaviour Support Plan

MediHealth Connect does not write behaviour support plans, does not conduct functional behaviour assessments and is not registered with the NDIS Commission for specialist behaviour support. Those things must be done by a registered behaviour support practitioner, and we do not offer them.

What we can do is help you get one. Our Gold Coast support coordinators know which practitioners are taking new participants, can help you use your Improved Relationships funding to engage them, and will make sure the practitioner and the implementing team start on the same page. From the moment the plan exists, we implement it.

Regulated Restrictive Practices and Reporting

A behaviour support plan may include a regulated restrictive practice: seclusion, chemical, mechanical, physical or environmental restraint. These are heavily regulated, and Gold Coast participants and families are entitled to know exactly how they are handled.

In Queensland, a regulated restrictive practice can only be used if it has been authorised under Queensland law and appears in a behaviour support plan lodged with the NDIS Commission. The plan has to show that less restrictive approaches were considered, and the practice must be applied in the least restrictive way for the shortest possible time. The provider implementing the plan must record every use and report it to the NDIS Commission, and any use outside the plan or without authorisation is a reportable incident.

Our Gold Coast team keeps those records, makes those reports, and works with your practitioner towards the point where the practice is no longer needed.

Areas We Cover on the Gold Coast

We implement behaviour support plans across the City of Gold Coast, including the hinterland. Because stability of staff matters so much, we try to build your team from workers based in your part of the coast.

North: Coomera, Pimpama, Ormeau, Helensvale, Oxenford

Central: Southport, Surfers Paradise, Ashmore, Nerang, Labrador

South: Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Tugun

Hinterland: Tamborine Mountain, Canungra

Participants with a behaviour support plan often have health needs as well. Our Gold Coast community nursing team works with the same support workers, so medication, health monitoring and behaviour support are coordinated by one organisation.

Positive Behaviour Support Gold Coast: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you write behaviour support plans?

No. Only a behaviour support practitioner registered with the NDIS Commission for specialist behaviour support can write a behaviour support plan or carry out a functional behaviour assessment. MediHealth Connect is not registered for that. We implement your plan and can help you find a practitioner through our support coordination service.

How do you train staff on my behaviour support plan?

Every member of your Gold Coast team reads the whole plan and is trained on the proactive strategies, early warning signs, agreed responses and anything the practitioner has excluded. We join implementation training run by your practitioner where it is offered, and we retrain everyone whenever the plan changes.

What happens if a restrictive practice is in my plan?

It is used only as authorised under Queensland law and as written in the plan lodged with the NDIS Commission. Our workers record each use, we report to the Commission as required, and any unauthorised use is treated as a reportable incident. The plan's aim is to reduce and remove the practice over time.

Can you work with my existing behaviour support practitioner?

Yes. We work under the direction of your practitioner, share data with them and raise anything that is not working. If you change practitioners, we support the handover so your implementing team stays consistent.

How is behaviour support implementation funded?

The practitioner is generally funded under Improved Relationships in your Capacity Building budget. The workers implementing the plan are funded from Core as part of your daily supports. Check with your plan manager or support coordinator if you are unsure what your plan contains.
